Nancy's nutty new rules

The next act in the drive to pass ObamaCare is the mother-of-all political maneuvers -- in which Democrats will use an incredibly convoluted and possibly unconstitutional process. Things were already arcane: President Obama, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid have been threatening to enact "health-care reform" through the narrow path of budget reconciliation. It's a ploy to allow the Senate to pass "reform" with just 51 votes -- making the election of Scott Brown as the 41st senator against ObamaCare irrelevant. To use reconciliation, Pelosi must first get House members to vote for the exact bill...

Nancy Pelosi's Grip on House Slips (a little seismic shifting here)

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi is not accustomed to the word she’s been hearing far more frequently in recent days: “no.” Over the past two weeks, Pelosi has faced a series of subtle but significant challenges to her authority — revolts from Democrats on the Ways and Means Committee, the Congressional Black Caucus, the Blue Dog Coalition and politically vulnerable first- and second-term members. The dynamic stems from an “every man for himself” attitude developing in the Democratic Caucus rather than a loss of respect for Pelosi, according to a senior Democratic aide. But it’s making Pelosi’s life — and efforts...

Kokesh (NM) Mispresents Military Discharge as "Honorable".

Kokesh's campaign website states: "After receiving an honorable discharge in November of 2006, Adam moved to Washington, DC to pursue a master's degree in Political Management at George Washington University. Since then, he has taken it upon himself as an activist to continue to honor his oath to the Constitution and the principles of liberty behind it. You know Rubio and DeVore, now meet Mulvaney.

With national attention being placed on spending, healthcare “reform” and jobs, it’s easy to forget that, as Tip O’neill said, “All politics is local.” With this in mind, I reached out to the Republican candidate for the 5th Congressional District in SC, Michael (Mick) Mulvaney. Currently Mulvaney is a state senator, but he now seeks national office, and, more specifically, the seat of Rep. John Spratt (D). Unseating Rep. Spratt will be no easy task. He’s a 14-term incumbent and Chairman of the Budget Finance Committee. In spite of this, Time Magazine named Sen. Mulvaney’s campaign to be of the...

How to Fix Congress!

This is How to Fix Congress!! A friend sent this along to me. I can't think of a reason to disagree. I am sending this to virtually everybody on my e-mail list and that includes conservatives, liberals, and everybody in between. Even though we disagree on a number of issues, I count all of you as friends. My friend and neighbor wants to promote a "Congressional Reform Act of 2010". It would contain eight provisions, all of which would probably be strongly endorsed by those who drafted the Constitution and the Bill of Rights. I know many of you will...

AP Sources: Massa to Resign Under Ethics Cloud (On Monday)

WASHINGTON (AP) -- New York Democrat Eric Massa is stepping down from his seat, effective Monday, in the House of Representatives. Knowledgable Democratic officials told The Associated Press that Massa, who has announced he will not seek reelection due to a recurrance of cancer, is resigning his seat. The House ethics panel is reviewing a complaint by a male staffer who reportedly felt uncomfortable in a situation with Massa that had sexual overtones. The freshman lawmaker won a longtime Republican district that was carried in 2008 by John McCain.
